At Modmacro, we get contacted a lot by companies and nonprofits asking us about logo design. Typically, their current logo is outdated, or they just don’t like it anymore and want a change.
We love creating new logos for companies to help bring a new, fresh identity to the organization, but we find that business owners are often surprised at how much goes into creating a new corporate identity. Logo design shouldn’t be an afterthought. It’s not just the icon you put on a sign or a t-shirt. Your logo is the visual starting point from which all other marketing materials should take their cues. Therefore, it should be thoughtfully designed by a logo designer who understands what your organization is all about, and who understands marketing in general.
Recently, a nonprofit organization came to us for help in rebranding. Not only did they want a new logo, but they also wanted to completely change the name of their organization to something that was a better fit with their mission.
After extensive conversations with the organization’s leadership to get a good feel for their goals and what they do, our team of branding experts got right to work coming up with various options for a new name for the organization. We presented a list of possibilities to the organization’s leadership team, who then chose their two favorites. We then took those two and solicited feedback from individuals that fit within the organization’s target market. We brought that feedback to the organization, and they made a final decision on the name.
Then began the process of logo design. Our logo designer presented the organization with several options, all of which kept the organization’s mission in mind. After a couple of revisions, the final logo was decided upon.
With this client, we took things one step further and helped them solidify their corporate messaging, utilizing a focus group to help determine the type of language that most clearly and effectively communicated the type of work the client does. The final, agreed-upon messaging was then used throughout the organization’s new website, also designed by team at Modmacro.
The organization’s Director of Operations had this to say about working with Modmacro for rebranding: “The process of creating a new brand and website has really helped to solidify our ministry’s mission and vision. It has also helped us learn how to communicate more clearly what our ministry has to offer and better explain our process…”
Had this organization tried to design their logo on their own (it happens more often than you might think, and rarely ends well), or had they gone with a logo designer that didn’t consider the bigger picture, they may have ended up with something that looks good, but not necessarily something that speaks to what they are all about. They certainly wouldn’t have gained the renewed focus and clarity of mission like they did when working with Modmacro to rebrand their organization and solidify their messaging.
When you trust your organization’s logo design to a company that understands branding and marketing—one who looks at the bigger picture and will design something with your company’s mission and vision in mind—the end result can be so much more than a new logo.
